Project Profile:

Role: Conceptual Design, Rendering

Tools: Sketchup, Layout, Enscape, Lightroom, Photoshop

Challenge: Remote Project, Budget

Project Scope:

Conceptually design and render a 500 sf post & beam outdoor shade pavilion and 500 sf pool for a residential developer client to submit to their local review board seeking a certificate of appropriateness.

Project Attribution:

All analysis, design, modeling, documentation and renders by Matt Flamm. Hand-drawn plan, and example architectural elevation provided by client. Legal

Conceptual Design:

Dimensional plan diagrams study five potential ways to maximize a trapezoidal lot while respecting an adjacent setback. The shade structure is depicted as a trapezoid in a client-provided site sketch; however, showing orthogonal pool and pavilion options help to illustrate an opportunity for simplification and cost savings. The fourth option ends up being the winning strategy.

Design Visualization:

A detailed 3D model of a trabeated shade structure is developed on top of the preferred site study diagram. Scale proportion, and coloquial detailing of the pool pavilion are based on existing, adjacent residential structures. The resulting 3D model is dropped into a virtual-reality environment for first-person, real-time design assessment and photo-realistic rendering.
